Petra Hermanova is an interdisciplinary artist and musician working with time-based media. A singer and composer, she primarily writes for autoharp, voice and pipe organ.
Her solo debut In Death’s Eyes (2023) drifts between song and heavy distorted drones, utilizing techniques from both folk and sacred traditions to grapple with the spiritual and earthly dimensions of devastating loss. In Death’s Eyes, described as “very atmospheric, a beautiful album” by BBC Radio 6 Music and “a rather rare sort of work” by PW Magazine, received international acclaim and several award nominations, including the Czech Grammy Awards for Best Alternative Album.
Since 2023, Hermanova has performed extensively solo and with ensembles in churches, art venues, monuments, and theatres, including Volksbühne, Gropius Bau, Der Aa-kerk, Bergen Cathedral, Völkerschlachtdenkmal and Graz Mausoleum. She was a resident of the SHAPE+ Platform and appeared at numerous contemporary music festivals such as Lunchmeat, Intonal, CTM, Insomnia and Romaeuropa.
Growing up in the Czech Republic, Hermanova developed her artistic language through an interdisciplinary approach. Her early work emerged from collaborative and band-based contexts, most notably as the founding member of Fiordmoss. With the band, she toured internationally, and their final album Kingdom Come (2017) won the Czech Grammy Award for Best Electronic Album. Alongside this, she cultivated long-term audiovisual collaborations with Jon Eirik Boska (Hydropsyche), drawing on her background in moving image and animation. She recently composed music for the documentary film Lapilli (2023, directed by Paula Ďurinová) which premiered at the Karlovy Vary IFF. She lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
